John Evans graduated from the Naval Music School, and has a Master's in Music from Boston University. While there, he played euphonium and tuba with the concert band, and served as marching band drum major. At the same time he also performed with the New England Conservatory Orchestra and wind ensemble. After teaching music for several years in Medford and Brookline, he settled in Peabody, MA, first as band director and then music administrator. Performing venues included the Schubert and Colonial theaters, the Boston Brass Ensemble. The Portland Maine Symphony and the Barnum and Bailey Circus Band in Boston. He was a founding member of the Claflin Hill Symphony and Summer Winds in Milford, MA until his retirement in 2009. As a Dixieland musician, he played at the Father's Moustache and Sweeney's Gay Nineties. In addition to the Cape Ann symphony, he plays with the Cape Ann Jazz Band, the Salem Philharmonic orchestra and his own German band.
