Cape Ann Scanner app
Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 15, 2026
The Cape Ann Scanner app (the “App”) is a volunteer tool operated by the Cape Ann Symphony Orchestra for the purpose of validating concert tickets at the door. This policy explains what the App collects and how that information is used.
What we collect
When a volunteer uses the App to scan a ticket, the following is
transmitted to our private server at
api.capeannsymphony.org:
- The volunteer’s name (entered at the start of each session).
- The ticket number scanned.
- The concert being scanned for.
- The time of the scan.
- The outcome of the scan (admitted, already scanned, wrong concert, unknown ticket).
The App also uses the device’s camera for the sole purpose of reading QR codes from printed or on-screen tickets. Camera frames are processed on the device and are not stored, uploaded, or shared.
How we use it
Scan records are kept on our private server so that:
- The same ticket cannot be used twice for the same concert.
- Box-office staff can reconcile attendance against ticket sales.
- We can audit who admitted whom in the event of a question.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, share, or rent any of this data to third parties.
- We do not use the data for advertising or tracking.
- We do not collect device identifiers, location, or anything beyond what is listed above.
Retention
Scan records are retained indefinitely for box-office record-keeping. A patron may request removal of their attendance history by contacting the Cape Ann Symphony directly.
